kW X-port version 1.4.1 for 3ds Max 9, 2008, 2009 and 2010, 32-bit versions

You'll need to register and log in to download the installer! That way, I can send out updates if an important update is made to the installer or exporter.

kW X-port is written to support the needs of those developing 3D games using 3ds Max and the .X file format. The most common example of .X file format usage comes from the Microsoft XNA Game Studio tool set, although the Microsoft DirectX SDK also contains code to read and use .X mesh files. kW X-port supports almost every feature that is supported in general .X file importers, except for rarely used features such as progressive meshes.

kW X-port has been developed and tested to the point that it is now a very robust exporter for animated and static geometry, using Skin or Physique modifiers, Biped or Bones skeletons, or rigid (hierarchical) animated models. Where most other exporters will fall down in one way or another, especially when it comes to skinning, kW X-port generally will do the right thing.

Features of the exporter include:

  • The ability to copy textures into the output folder of the export.
  • Cutting the 3ds Max timeline into multiple separate animation clips.
  • Including or excluding specific geometry based on flags.
  • Exporting DirectX Shader Material parameters.
  • Multiple texture coordinate sets (up to 4) in a single .X file.
  • MaxScript support in the KWFunctions interface.
  • And a number of settings and options that can tune the export to suit almost any export scenario.

Version 1.4.1, 2009-07-23

  • Fix the "bad parameter values in default shaders" bug.
  • Fix an installer package problem seen by some users.

Version 1.4.0, 2009-07-19

  • Export multiple texture maps as shader from standard Max material.
  • Support for 3ds Max 2010.
  • Work-around for the bug where Effects/Shaders sometimes were not recognized by IGame.
  • MaxScript API. Check out the KWFunctions interface, and the kwutils.ms sample script file.
  • Documentation / Manual is now properly installed into Start menu program list.
  • GUI improvements.
  • Bug fixes.

dx exporter crashes with directx shaders in scene

Hi there

Thanks very much for getting the max 2010 exporters up and running. I have however found a weird bug. In max 2010 the exporter crashes 3dsmax if I have directx shaders applied to any meshes in the scene. With standard max materials it works fine. This however only happens in 2010 and not 2009. The panda exporter also crashes in exactly the same circumstances which leads me to believe it something to do with max 2010.

Any help much appreciated as its doing my head in!!

thanks

Matt Ratcliffe

If you can make the scene

If you can make the scene available, I can try exporting it here and see what I can find out.
I know that there are various crashing bugs in 2010 that weren't in 2009 or before -- they may have improved the features set and UI (I like 2010!) but the SDK has gone backwards :-(

That's a pain the sdk is

That's a pain the sdk is going backwards... Nice one autodesk!

Here is a test scene with a simple cube and default directx texture map applied. It crashes 3dsmax when I hit export.

Hope that helps

Problem on Windows Seven x64

Hi,

i am using Windows Seven x64 Beta.

I cannot install the plug-in because The "Next" button in installation package is disabled. Is there any work around ?

Thanks.

What version of Max have you

What version of Max have you installed?
32- or 64-bit?
Which localization/translation?

There is a known problem in the installer where it will not find localized language copies of 3ds Max.
There is a known bug in 3ds Max where many third party exporters (including their own example exporters!) will crash on 64-bit versions. Because of this, I have not released a 64-bit version of kW Xport or the installer.

Installing with the current installer onto a 32-bit copy of 3ds Max should work fine, even if you are using a 64-bit OS -- at least for RTM/final bits of the OS; I have not tested with beta/candidate versions of the OS. (Win7 is actually final and released to anyone with MSDN or Enterprise access)

Installer package problem still exists

The installer package problem is still there.

The installer complains I need a newer version of the installer, which is nonsense because I have the latest.

When opening and extracting with winrar, winrar complains that the archive is corrupt...

I've downloaded the package again to make sure but with the same result.

Ebrarian

I have re-downloaded the

I have re-downloaded the archive from the following URL, and it works just fine. Using this archive, I can un-install, and re-install the exporter on my Windows Vista machine:
http://www.kwxport.org/system/files/kwxport-1.4.1-x86.msi

The warning about "newest installer" probably talks about the Microsoft Installer engine -- if you say you have the newest version, which version is that?
You can update Windows Installer from the following URL:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=5a58b56f-60b6-4...

If the archive is still corrupt for you, then I would like to know which country you are in, what your Internet connection is, and whether you have any other programs running on your computer (like firewalls, virus scanners, file sharing applications, etc).

I Can't download

i can not download from this link

my downloader max can download 32% and then download fail because download server dose't support resume

this problem continues from version 1.3.4 to last version

how I can download this plugin????????????????..........................
